On 19 October 2026, CDC Gaming reported, citing Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission figures, that Kansas commercial casinos earned $34.4 million in September, up 3.8% year on year. Slots brought in $30.5 million (up 3.1%) and table games $3.9 million (up 10%). These are reported figures from a trade outlet. We have not checked them against the commission's own release.

The statewide total hides concentration. Hollywood Casino reported $14.5 million, about 42% of the state figure, and Kansas Star $13 million, about 38%. Together they account for roughly 80%. Boot Hill ($3.7 million, up 11.2%) and Kansas Crossing ($3.2 million, up 4.5%) are much smaller. The four properties sum correctly to the state total.

The figures describe revenue, not the decisions that shaped this market. Licensing and location choices made earlier by state and local bodies determine how many casinos compete and where. The question the headline skips is who absorbs the cost when growth sits with a few large sites. Analysis: in a four-property market where two sites carry most revenue, a swing at one of them moves the state total, and smaller properties have less room to absorb a weak month. One month cannot prove that this is structural.

The table-games data shows the same pattern. Kansas Star's table revenue rose 20.4% to $1.9 million, while Kansas Crossing's fell 34% to $173,130. The statewide table gain therefore rests heavily on one property. The source gives no cause for either move, and we have not established one.

What would change this reading is a longer run of monthly data. If Kansas Crossing's table decline persists and the concentration holds across a year, the uneven pattern is more than a single-month effect. If the gap narrows, September was noise. Until then, the open question is whether the smaller properties are losing share or simply had a difficult month.
