That is one school’s tuition-only price, not a Malta-wide rate. Accommodation, course intensity, season and your immigration route can change the total.

English school or university? The price is different
For a language-school course, Maltalingua’s 2026 adult price list gives one example: €234 for a one-week standard course or €876 for four weeks. Its four-week intensive course, with 30 lessons a week, is listed at €1,248. These are tuition-only prices from one school, not a Malta-wide rate.
Maltalingua lists a €50-per-week high-season supplement for courses from 22 June to 28 August 2026, and prices accommodation separately. Those dates have passed; check the school’s current price list and request a quote for your course dates before comparing costs.
A University of Malta programme taught in English is a different kind of study. Fees depend on the specific course and fee category. The University directs applicants to the fee information for each course; where applicable, the amount and deadline are stated in the acceptance letter.
Compare what course-and-accommodation prices include
A discount outlet advertises four-week IELS packages at €1,513 for a course with a triple room at IELS Lodge, or €1,765 with a shared host-family room. The outlet describes the offer as including 20 general-English lessons a week, accommodation, return airport transfer, registration, course materials, an entrance test and a certificate. It describes the residence as self-catering and the host-family option as half-board. These are outlet-advertised package prices, not prices verified in IELS’s own 2026 list.
IELS’s official 2026 price list presents course, accommodation and other fees separately. It lists charges including €55 for registration, €35 for course materials and a course book per course, and €20 per week for travel and medical insurance. It also says examination fees are not included for specified exams. Confirm the discount offer, accommodation, inclusions and all payable charges directly with IELS before booking.
There is no single reliable all-in budget in these examples. Check whether your quote includes meals, transfers, materials, insurance and any exam fees, then allow separately for flights, local transport and other personal costs. Compare the same course length, lesson intensity, room type and dates.
Check the school and course before you book
For an English-language school, check the Malta ELT Council’s licensed-school list. Its March 2026 list names 31 licensed schools in Malta and Gozo. This is separate from checking whether a further- or higher-education provider and programme are licensed or accredited.
If you are considering further or higher education, check the exact provider and programme in the MFHEA register. Do not assume that an ELT Council-licensed language school or its English course automatically meets the requirements for a higher-education study residence route.
Visa, residence and work costs depend on your situation
For EU nationals studying in Malta for more than three months, Identità says registration is required and lists enrolment at a licensed and accredited education establishment, comprehensive health insurance and sufficient resources among the conditions. EEA and Swiss nationals have some similar favourable conditions, but check the applicable process for your nationality.
For third-country nationals, Identità says courses not exceeding 90 days use the Schengen short-stay C-visa route where a visa is required; visa-exempt nationals are excluded from that procedure. For courses exceeding 90 days, Identità’s dedicated student-visa page says applicants are to be issued a national D visa. However, the agency’s student FAQ says a D visa is required for courses of at least 105 days. For a 91–104-day course, these official pages conflict: check your route with Identità and the school before paying a non-refundable deposit.
Do not assume an English course gives you permission to work. Identità says some third-country students on qualifying courses exceeding 90 days may be allowed to work up to 20 hours a week after their first three months of study, subject to Jobsplus conditions. Check your course and status before relying on work to cover costs. See our guide to part-time jobs in Malta for students.
Identità’s student national-visa checklist dated 13 August 2025 lists a €100 standard fee for applicants aged 12 or older and a €150 extended fee. This is a dated checklist, not a complete estimate of current application costs. Confirm the applicable route, fee and any external service-provider charge before applying.
Questions people ask
How much is a four-week English course in Malta?
Maltalingua lists €876 for a four-week standard course in its 2026 adult price list, with accommodation separate. A discount outlet advertises four-week IELS packages from €1,513 with a triple room at IELS Lodge. These prices include different things, so confirm the offer and compare course, room, meals, fees and supplements directly with the school.
Is accommodation included in the course price?
Not always. Maltalingua lists accommodation separately. A discount outlet advertises IELS course-and-accommodation packages, but confirm the offer and full payable amount directly with IELS.
Can I work while studying English in Malta?
Do not assume so. Identità describes conditional work permission for some third-country students on qualifying courses exceeding 90 days, after their first three months and subject to Jobsplus conditions. Check your course and status before relying on earnings.
What visa do I need for a 91–104-day English course?
Identità’s dedicated student-visa page says courses exceeding 90 days require a D visa, while its student FAQ says a D visa is required for courses of at least 105 days. Because the official guidance conflicts for this duration, confirm your route with Identità and the school before booking.
