Start with the sound, not the size

A festival choice can be a choice about what you want to listen for: a long electronic set, jazz, songs in Maltese, or the sung verse of għana. Malta’s festival calendar holds all of those, but they are not interchangeable nights out. For year-round gigs and regular live-music spots, look beyond festival guides; this is the short map of multi-day festivals and distinct festival programmes.

The next editions with dates currently listed include Mużika Mużika, 11–13 March 2027; Festgħana, 20–23 May; Earth Garden, 4–6 June; and the Malta Jazz Festival, 5–10 July. Glitch lists 11–14 August 2027, and its ticket page says Tier 1 tickets are on sale. Dates are not a promise that every programme detail or ticket option is settled, so check the organiser before you book around one.

One nearer date is Anjunadeep Malta, listed for 8–11 October 2026, with its three-day core programme scheduled for 9–11 October. The organiser describes a spread of settings, including historic castle walls, beaches, boat parties and open-air clubs; its page says tickets are on sale, while the welcome-party tickets are sold out. Check the current listing for availability and venue specifics.

Electronic music: concentrated or spread across the island

Glitch is the concentrated electronic-festival option on this list: its 2026 edition ran 12–15 August, with an opening party at Valletta Ditch, main festival days at Gianpula Fields and closing events at Gianpula Village. Those details are a record of the past edition, not a forecast for 2027. The organiser lists 11–14 August 2027 and currently says Tier 1 tickets are on sale; check its ticket page for availability before planning.

Anjunadeep Malta offers a different geography: the organiser describes events in settings from castle walls and beaches to boat parties and open-air clubs. Its October 2026 edition is upcoming as of 30 September 2026. The exact venue and ticket details are edition-specific, so use the organiser’s page rather than assuming every event shares one site or access arrangement.

Jazz, Maltese songs and għana

The Malta Jazz Festival is the established annual fixture here, with a history dating back to 1991. Festivals Malta lists the 2027 edition for 5–10 July; its 2026 dates, 6–11 July, have passed. Think of it as the jazz-specific stop in this guide, and check the official listing for the next programme, venues and ticket details.

Mużika Mużika puts Maltese songs in the foreground. In 2026, it paired a competition for original finalist songs with Serata tal-Klassiċi, an evening of classic Maltese songs performed by veteran singers. Festivals Malta lists the next edition for 11–13 March 2027; the date listing does not by itself confirm the full programme or ticket status.

Festgħana is the name to know for għana, the Maltese folk-singing tradition. The festival’s 2026 announcement described its first edition under that name, but it also has an older lineage: Festivals Malta has described the wider festival history as nearly 30 years, and announced the name change from Ritmu Roots Festival. The current Festivals Malta listing gives Festgħana’s next dates as 20–23 May 2027.

Guitar, pop and the big outdoor stage

The Valletta Guitar Festival debuted on 10–12 September 2026, with concerts across Valletta and a programme announced to span classical, jazz, tango, Brazilian and symphonic repertoire. It was a new festival under that name, not yet a long-running annual fixture. Its announced edition has passed; check Festivals Malta for any future dates.

SummerDaze and Isle of MTV are the large outdoor pop-facing names in this mix. For SummerDaze 2026, the Malta Tourism Authority reported two nights at Ta’ Qali Concert Area, with Lewis Capaldi on 11 August and Calvin Harris on 15 August. The 2026 Isle of MTV concert took place at Il-Fosos Square, within Music Week events across Malta from 22–26 July. Both editions are past; those dates and artists do not confirm what comes next.

Earth Garden’s official homepage lists its next edition for 4–6 June 2027. That is the confirmed detail to work with here; the page does not establish the edition’s programme, venue details or ticket status. Check the organiser rather than carrying assumptions over from another year.

A festival is not the same as a gig night

Festivals make sense when you want a focused stretch of music, a particular tradition or a programme that moves across sites. If what you want is a live band on an ordinary weeknight, that is a year-round venues-and-gigs question instead. Before travelling for a festival, check the organiser’s current page for dates, venue, programme and ticket status—especially when only the dates have been announced.
