Skip the club strip for dinner by Spinola Bay, a drink at a café, or a waterside wander towards Balluta. Venue hours and bus services can change, so check directly before you set out.

Let the water set the pace

If Paceville isn’t the plan, St Julian’s can still make a full evening of dinner, a drink and time beside the water. Spinola Bay gives the night a natural centre; Balluta Bay offers a different landmark to walk towards. It’s less a hard boundary between two neighbourhoods than a change of scene as you move along the coast.

At Spinola, MÉZ describes its restaurant as overlooking the bay, with outdoor dining. That makes a meal with the waterfront in view an option; check the restaurant’s current hours, service and booking availability before planning around it.

A café stop, then a landmark in the distance

For an evening that doesn’t need to revolve around a club, Café Juliani lists food, coffee and drinks, with daily opening hours of 07:00–23:00. The café says it is on the ground-floor lobby of Hotel Juliani, on St George’s Road. Those are venue-published details, so check its website or contact the café before you go.

For a stroll with a destination, head towards Balluta Bay and look for the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at the water’s edge. St Julian’s Local Council records the church’s history from 1859, with later rebuilding and restoration. It is a landmark to see from outside; the council information does not establish that the church is open to visitors at night.

A palace with one notable exception

Spinola Palace adds a small wrinkle to the idea of an evening landmark: the building itself is not open to the public, but the council says its cellar houses a local restaurant. The council page does not name the restaurant or confirm its current arrangements, so don’t assume the palace is open or turn up expecting a particular venue without checking first.

Check the bus for your actual journey

Malta Public Transport’s update, effective 5 April 2026, lists the N13 night route between Valletta and St Julian’s. It gives weekday departures from Valletta between 23:10 and 02:10 at 10-minute intervals. That is useful context, not a guarantee for every night or direction: check the operator’s live information for your travel date, stops and return journey before relying on the bus.

An ordinary night is not the festa

The town’s annual festa is a separate, more concentrated kind of evening. St Julian’s Local Council says it generally falls on the last weekend of August, with outdoor celebrations and fireworks over Spinola Bay, generally on a Saturday evening. That describes a recurring tradition, not a confirmed date or programme for any particular year.

For an ordinary night, the gentler plan is simpler: choose a place to eat or drink, leave room for the waterfront, and check the details that can change. Paceville may be nearby, but it doesn’t have to be the point of the evening.
