That much is clear from Carney’s public account. Less is.
The New York Times, in an RSS summary of Carney’s statement, reported the death toll, the injuries and his description of the blaze. The Mirror, also citing Carney, reported that four service members were killed, that dozens were seriously injured and that the situation was still evolving.
The gap between confirmed casualties and explained cause matters here. The Mirror reported that Global News, citing unnamed military sources, said a gas line or gas well may have been hit during a live-fire training exercise. That is an attributed report, not an official finding.
Carney also said Canada was working with Alberta’s government and local authorities, and the Mirror reported that flags would be flown at half-mast. For now, the public record is heavy on grief and light on mechanism: four dead, dozens injured, and no confirmed account yet of what set the fire loose.
