Elordi Plays It Cool: The Kardashians Are Waiting
Jacob Elordi has been dating Kendall Jenner for months, and he still hasn't sat down with the family. Not Kris. Not Kim. Not the camera crew that materialises within forty-eight hours of any significant life event in that household. For anyone else this would be an oversight. For Elordi, it reads like a deliberate act of self-preservation.
There is a version of this story where it's sweet — two people keeping something private, moving slowly, refusing to let the machinery of the Kardashian-Jenner industrial complex absorb them before they're ready. There is another version where it says everything about what he thinks the relationship actually is. Both can be true. Usually both are.
Kendall has always been the one in that family who kept the most to herself, which is a relative statement but a real one. Her relationships have a pattern: visible enough to exist publicly, guarded enough to stay intact. Whether that strategy survives a boyfriend who seems constitutionally opposed to the whole apparatus remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, across the city and consuming approximately ninety percent of the available cultural oxygen this week, Travis Kelce and his soon-to-be wife are doing final preparations at Madison Square Garden for what the internet has collectively decided is the most significant event of the decade. The black-tie dress code has been confirmed. The décor involves what multiple sources are describing with barely-contained reverence. The pre-wedding workout footage — because of course there is pre-wedding workout footage — has been logged, analysed, and archived.
The jitters are apparently real. The sleepless nights are apparently real. The scale of what it means to turn your wedding into a civic event, an aesthetic statement, a news cycle, and a personal milestone all at once — that is apparently also real, and arriving all at once in the small hours of the morning the way large things tend to do.
What is interesting about all of it, and what tends to get buried under the dress code discourse and the décor speculation, is the actual relationship underneath the production. They are, by every visible account, genuinely besotted with each other. That doesn't always survive the machinery either. But sometimes it does.
Elordi, watching from a careful distance, probably knows something about that calculation.
