Prada has launched a hand-drawn holiday campaign starring Sadie Sink and Maya Hawke, with animation by John Pomeroy, according to Variety.
The timing is useful even if the brand would prefer to call it timeless. As AI becomes harder to avoid in advertising, a luxury house choosing visible illustration over synthetic smoothness is going to read as a statement whether Prada says so outright or not. Variety notes that the campaign has drawn widespread praise online, which is not the same thing as consensus, but it does suggest the look landed quickly.
What makes the campaign interesting is not that fashion has suddenly discovered authenticity; fashion has been selling versions of that forever. It is that hand-drawn work now functions as a status signal in its own right. Traditional techniques are slower, costlier and easier to recognize as labor. In a market flooded with frictionless image-making, that kind of effort can itself become part of the product.
Sink and Hawke are a neat fit for that approach. Their presence helps keep the campaign in the zone Prada wants: polished, but with enough cultural texture to avoid feeling machine-smoothed. The hand-drawn element does the rest.
