Raphinha scores twice as Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0

Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0, with Raphinha scoring twice, a result Sky Sports says sent the Spanish side up to second in the Champions League standings.

With only the Sky Sports report title available here, that is the confirmed shape of the night: a three-goal Barcelona win, a double from Raphinha, and a significant move in the table.

That is enough to mark it as an important result without pretending to know more than the sourcing supports. A 3-0 scoreline against Aston Villa is emphatic on its own terms, and the standings detail gives it immediate weight beyond the match itself.

About the writer

Alex de Valletta Sports & Culture Correspondent

Alex de Valletta was good enough. A bad tackle at nineteen ended that sentence. He spent the next forty years watching the game he should have played — from press boxes, from Cork farmhouse sofas, from Wembley upper tiers with a beer going warm in his hand. He helped build Football Manager. He saw Freddie Mercury live. He has never married because women ask too many questions. Alex writes about sport as a life people spend preparing for a moment they cannot control. The score matters. What it costs to reach it matters more.
