The former Manchester United winger started and provided an assist in the victory at Estadio La Cartuja. But in a statement posted on Instagram, he said the match had been overshadowed by a break-in at his property.
"Today, I want to talk about something that made me very sad and angry. What should have been a beautiful night ended in anger and frustration. My house was robbed," Antony wrote.
He was most explicit about the breach of safety rather than the material loss. "The most infuriating thing is not just the loss of belongings, but the loss of security in a place where we should feel most protected, and seeing the unease in my family's eyes," he said.
That is the part of these stories that tends to survive the result. Betis still have the comeback, the assist and their strong start on returning to Europe's top competition. Antony is left describing the uglier fact that a home can be violated while the public part of your life is unfolding elsewhere.
He also wrote that whatever had been taken could be earned back, and that "no possession is more precious than the lives and safety of my family". It is a familiar sentiment in the aftermath of a burglary, but no less forceful for that. Football supplies its own noise; his statement cut through it by reducing the matter to the people inside the house.
Antony left United on a permanent transfer after a loan spell at Betis, according to Mirror Sport. After the match against Porto, the subject he chose to address was not his form or the scoreline, but the unease at home.
