A closed pharmacy, an urgent prescription and a medical emergency are three different problems. Malta does not solve them with one “night pharmacy” list.
Start with the pharmacy, then confirm
If you need a pharmacy, start with the FreeMalta pharmacy directory, choose your area and call before travelling. The Sunday duty roster identifies pharmacies scheduled to open on Sundays and public holidays; it is not a guarantee that a pharmacy is open late tonight. The Malta Medicines Authority publishes the official roster.
When the need cannot wait
For a medical need that cannot wait, Malta’s Floriana, Mosta and Paola Health Centres operate 24/7. Outside routine hours, the service is for immediate medical needs. A health centre being open does not mean its pharmacy counter is open all night. Check the official health-centre hours and pharmacy-service hours.
Mater Dei Hospital is another distinction worth knowing. Its public dispensaries have daytime hours, while the hospital provides an after-hours emergency pharmacy service. That is not the same as walking into a normal retail pharmacy; contact the hospital pharmacy before travelling.
If you are unsure what level of care you need, the government’s 1400 helpline can direct eligible patients, but it cannot prescribe medicine. For a life-threatening emergency, call 112.
