What Changes at Pharmacies on Sundays and Public Holidays in Malta?

Sunday does not mean every pharmacy is closed. It means you need the right date, area and duty roster.

On a normal weekday, you might go to the pharmacy you already know. On a Sunday or public holiday, that habit can send you to a closed door.

Malta uses a duty roster: selected pharmacies open on specific dates. The name that matters is not necessarily the pharmacy closest to you—it is the one scheduled for your area on that day. The Malta Medicines Authority publishes the official 2026 roster and posts changes when the schedule is revised.

Three checks before you leave

The date. Next Sunday’s pharmacy may not be this Sunday’s.
The area. A pharmacy on duty elsewhere in Malta may be a long journey away.
The hours. Being on the roster does not mean being open all day—or all night.

You can browse the upcoming Sunday duty dates on FreeMalta, then call the pharmacy to confirm its hours before travelling. The Medicines Authority also publishes separate Saturday rosters; do not treat Saturday, Sunday and public holidays as the same schedule.
