The mechanism matters: light penetrates closed eyelids well enough to suppress melatonin production, which disrupts the autonomic nervous system, which in turn keeps the heart working at a low hum when it should be resting completely. The body at night is not simply unconscious. It is doing serious maintenance, and light interferes with the schedule.
What made me pause wasn't the severity of the finding — it was the specificity. We've spent years debating blue light from phones, and that conversation isn't wrong, but it has perhaps trained us to think the problem stops when we put the screen down. It doesn't.
