EXANTE / Multi-Asset Investing
FreeMalta / EXANTEA wider world. A considered position.

Capital travels.
Control should follow.

New York before lunch. Europe in the afternoon. A portfolio can cross borders rather elegantly. The account behind it needs a little more consideration.

More access. Better questions.Inside EXANTE
Investment risk. Investments can fall in value and you may receive less than you invested. Derivatives and margin trading introduce additional risks, including losses that can exceed the initial amount committed to a position. Access to an instrument is not evidence that it suits your circumstances.
01 / The proposition

A wider investment universe.
A single place to work.

The meeting usually begins with the portfolio. Then come the practicalities: three currencies, two custodians, a bond position someone needs to price, and an option expiry that has become rather inconvenient. Wealth can be wonderfully international. Administration tends to be less romantic.

EXANTE’s proposition is a multi-asset, multi-currency account with a proprietary platform. Its current website advertises access to more than 2 million instruments across 50+ markets, with desktop, web and mobile interfaces. The attraction is breadth and a consolidated workflow—not a promise that more instruments create better returns.

2M+Instruments advertised on the current site
50+Markets advertised; access varies
€10,000Individual initial funding
€50,000Corporate initial funding

Coverage is a provider claim, not an independently audited count. Availability depends on the instrument, entity and client permissions. Funding thresholds: EXANTE’s initial-deposit guidance.

02 / The Malta question

The name is familiar.
Read the entity beneath it.

Malta is part of EXANTE’s story, but the brand is not one licence with four flags attached. Its own explanation describes a family of separately licensed brokers: MFSA in Malta, FCA in the UK, CySEC in Cyprus and SFC in Hong Kong. XNT LTD owns the trademark and licenses its use to the other entities.

For an investor here, the useful question is specific: which company will contract with me, and under which client classification? Your postcode does not answer that. Neither does a regulator’s logo on a homepage.

The detail worth stopping for. EXANTE states that XNT LTD is not a member of the Investment Compensation Scheme. It describes Cyprus EXT LTD’s ICF as covering eligible retail clients, not professional clients or eligible counterparties. Check the entity-specific explanation and your agreement. There is no blanket “EU account = compensation cover” rule here.

The same guidance describes segregation of client and company assets. Segregation and a compensation scheme do different jobs; neither guarantees investment performance. Ask how custody, cash and your particular holdings would be treated in an insolvency. Keep your statements and trade confirmations somewhere you control.

03 / What access means

Build the portfolio.
Not a collection of menus.

A million choices can be an advantage. They can also be an excellent way to avoid making one. Start with the exposure you actually need, then confirm whether the relevant security, contract or share class is available to your account.

Ownership / exposure

Stocks & ETFs

EXANTE’s stocks page advertises over 70,000 securities globally. Verify the exact listing, trading currency, settlement arrangements and any investor-access restrictions.

Income / credit

Bonds

Coupon income is only part of the story. Ask about credit risk, maturity, liquidity, minimum dealing size, accrued interest and the executable price—not only the last price shown.

Expiry / obligation

Futures

Check contract size, margin, expiry and settlement before opening. A convenient platform does not make a delivery obligation or a margin call less real.

Rights / conditions

Options

Understand the underlying, expiry, exercise style and assignment exposure. Buying an option and writing one create very different obligations.

Cash / conversion

Currencies

A multi-currency account can help organise cash alongside foreign holdings. It does not erase FX risk, conversion costs or interest on negative currency balances.

Instrument / structure

Commodity exposure

Establish what you are buying: a future, security or other contract. Storage, roll costs and settlement depend on the structure. “Gold exposure” is not necessarily a gold bar.

Start with the current market menu and the applicable instrument risk disclosures. The questions above are a due-diligence framework, not confirmation that every instrument is available to every account.

04 / The cost of access

A small commission.
A complete bill.

EXANTE publishes market-specific commissions rather than one universal trading price. Its stocks schedule lists major US venues from $0.02 per share, with a $1 minimum, and venues including Euronext Paris from 0.05%, with a €1 minimum. Your agreed tariff and current instrument details take precedence over an overview.

Illustration / US equities

100 shares. $2.

At $0.02 per share, buying 100 shares produces $2 commission. Selling the same quantity at that rate produces another $2. The share price, spread, FX costs and any other applicable charges are separate.

Illustration / percentage tariff

€10,000. €5.

A €10,000 transaction at 0.05% produces €5 commission, above a €1 minimum. A second €10,000 transaction at the same rate adds another €5. These are arithmetic examples, not personalised quotes.

The service-fee guidance describes a withdrawal charge of €30 or currency equivalent; exceptions and bank-related costs can increase it. It also lists a €50 monthly inactivity fee after 90 days without trading where the account has a positive balance below €5,000 and no open positions or active orders.

Look beyond trading commissions: negative cash interest, short-position financing, market-data charges, bond custody and securities-transfer costs can matter. If you intend to integrate a system, the same guidance asks clients to discuss live FIX and HTTP API pricing with their account manager. We would not describe every integration as free.

Ask for the tariff attached to your entity and account. The public Document Centre includes cost disclosures, client categorisation and order-execution information.

05 / The working day

Test the workflow.
Before moving the portfolio.

EXANTE’s platform offering spans desktop, web and mobile, with API integrations. The practical test is not whether it looks sophisticated. It is whether your intended workflow survives an ordinary Tuesday.

Find a security, inspect the currency balance, preview the order, read the margin impact and export a statement. If you work with an adviser or finance team, check permissions and reporting together. A platform demonstration is a good time to discover that everyone means something different by “access”.

Ask the account manager
  • Can my exact holdings transfer in, and what will it cost?
  • Which data feeds require a subscription?
  • How are cash deficits and margin utilisation treated?
  • What trading, reporting and API permissions will each user have?
  • What is the process—and cost—if I leave?
06 / FreeMalta’s read

Useful breadth.
Only if you need it.

Worth exploring when…

You need several asset classes or markets, want to consolidate a multi-currency workflow, and have the expertise—or qualified support—to use the instruments involved. A family office or corporate treasury team should evaluate access alongside custody, controls and reporting.

Pause when…

Your needs are a small recurring investment and a simple account. More instruments may add complexity without adding value. Compare total costs and the legal setup rather than treating a funding threshold as a badge of sophistication.

A brokerage account is not automatically a wealth-management mandate. Establish who makes investment decisions, what advice is included and what remains your responsibility. If the wider structure involves ownership, residence or a family office, our Malta family-office briefing is a useful separate starting point.

Questions people ask

Before the first transfer.

What is EXANTE?

EXANTE is a shared brand used by separately licensed brokers. It offers a proprietary multi-asset platform and a multi-currency account. The legal entity in your agreement determines the applicable regulatory framework; the brand alone does not.

What is the initial funding requirement?

EXANTE states €10,000 for individual accounts and €50,000 for corporate accounts, or equivalent in accepted currencies. Funding can be made in parts after document approval; live trading starts when the applicable threshold is reached.

Does a Malta XNT LTD account have investor compensation cover?

EXANTE states that XNT LTD is not a member of the Investment Compensation Scheme. Its Cyprus entity EXT LTD describes ICF coverage for eligible retail clients, not professional clients or eligible counterparties. Confirm the actual entity and client classification before funding.

Does a multi-currency account remove currency risk?

No. Holding several currencies can reduce the need for immediate conversions, but exchange rates still affect the value of foreign-currency assets and cash. Negative cash balances can also incur interest.

Is API access always free?

Do not assume so. EXANTE offers FIX and HTTP integrations, but its service-fee guidance asks clients to discuss live API pricing with their account manager. Obtain the terms for your intended use.

Does EXANTE manage my portfolio automatically?

Do not infer a discretionary management mandate from brokerage access. Confirm which services are contracted, who chooses the investments and what advice or portfolio management, if any, is included.
