Red Bull
1982
The Thai jet lag remedy and the Austrian carbonation mutation
While traveling in Thailand, Austrian marketing executive Dietrich Mateschitz discovered Krating Daeng, a non-carbonated energy drink sold to truck drivers by Chaleo Yoovidhya that cured his jet lag. The duo partnered, added carbonation, adjusted the flavor profile, and launched the distinct slim blue-and-silver can in Austria in 1987.
2005
The Jaguar Racing buyout and Formula One grid domination
Red Bull purchased the underperforming Jaguar Racing Formula One team from Ford, rebranding it as Red Bull Racing. Instead of relying on traditional corporate sponsorship, the brand built its own elite internal constructor program, eventually winning multiple consecutive World Constructors' and Drivers' Championships.
2012
The Stratos supersonic space dive and ultimate marketing stunt
The company executed one of the most viewed marketing events in human history with Red Bull Stratos, sponsoring Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner as he jumped from a helium balloon in the stratosphere. The live broadcast captured tens of millions of global viewers, cementing the brand's associations with extreme performance.
2025
The €12.1 billion record revenue and asset-light outsourced scale
Red Bull GmbH posted record financial metrics for the 2025 fiscal year, with global sales volumes hitting 13.9 billion cans and group turnover growing to €12.196 billion. Monster Beverage
1935
The natural California juice roots and the bankruptcy scare
The company originated as Hansen's, a family-run Southern California business producing fresh pasteurized fruit juices. The business filed for bankruptcy protection in 1988, before being acquired by South African investors Rodney Sacks and Hilton Schlosberg, who spotted an emerging macro shift toward functional energy formulations.
2002
The oversized 16oz can release and the counter-culture explosion
The company launched Monster Energy in an oversized, aggressive black 16oz can—delivering double the volume of Red Bull for the exact same retail price. The brand eschewed traditional media ads, directly sponsoring action sports athletes, heavy metal bands, and gaming tournaments to capture alternative demographics.
2015
The historic Coca-Cola equity swap and absolute distribution alignment
Monster finalized an industry-defining strategic asset swap with The Coca-Cola Company. Coca-Cola acquired a 16.7% equity stake in Monster and transferred its own energy brands to them, while Monster transferred its non-energy juice lines to Coke. Crucially, Monster integrated completely into Coke's global distribution system.
2026
The CANarchy craft beer scaling and stable $7.5 billion revenue mark
By mid-2026, Monster Beverage Corporation sustained its high-margin revenue trajectory, projecting annual sales near $7.5 billion. The beverage giant successfully expanded its market footprint via its CANarchy craft beer and hard seltzer acquisitions, while rolling out custom zero-sugar functional product lines worldwide.
