Billy Ocean, Sauron and the Kardashians. Yes, This Is Still Me.

A disco ball hanging in a kitchen, scattering light around the room.

Tonight, I Have Absolutely Nothing Useful to Teach You.

No AI breakthrough.

No founder lessons. No market analysis. No downloadable list of 100 family offices.

Tonight, I want to talk about Billy Ocean, cat videos and the Kardashians.

You may have arrived expecting something else.

That’s fine. So did the algorithm.

Alexa, please take over.

Listening to music is one of my favourite things in life.

God bless whoever invented Spotify. And Alexa deserves a mention, too.

After a long day, music takes something off me that another hour of scrolling through work-related content never will. I don’t need it to improve my focus or optimise my evening.

I just like how it makes me feel.

When I was younger, Queen and the Cranberries were part of my world because of my older brother and sisters. Their music found its way into my life before I had much of a say in the matter.

Some things you inherit are considerably better than furniture.

Lately, I have been listening to Billy Ocean’s “Caribbean Queen” on repeat.

What a song.

The other day, I went for the eighties instead of Sauron.

Yes, there is a Sauron obsession. We don’t need to investigate it tonight. Middle-earth can manage without me for a few hours.

Billy Ocean is currently in charge.

Please stop sending me AI videos.

People know I work with AI, so they assume AI content is what I want to watch in my free time.

“Look what AI can do now.”

“Have you seen this new tool?”

“This changes everything.”

Brother, I have been changing everything since breakfast. Can I please watch a cat fall off a sofa?

I enjoy reels. Instagram, YouTube, Facebook—I’m not pretending to be above any of it.

Give me something funny. An old film scene. A ridiculous animal. One of those AI-made nostalgic videos that brings an old atmosphere back in a strange, lovely way.

That last one is the distinction.

I can enjoy something made with AI without wanting a lecture about AI.

Sometimes I want the thing itself. No explanation of the model. No commentary on the disruption. No man pointing at a headline while looking alarmed.

Knowing what I do for work is not the same as knowing what I enjoy.

I am interested in plenty of things that will never become a business opportunity.

Thankfully.

Today is October 8. We have plans.

The Kardashians are back.

Yes, this qualifies as a big day in my calendar.

I love watching them. I follow their lives, their relationships and whatever is happening around them.

Especially Kendall.

She was recently part of L’Oréal Paris’s Le Défilé, and yes, I pay attention to that sort of thing.

This is not a confession delivered with embarrassment. I don’t need to disguise it as research into personal branding or the economics of celebrity.

I like watching the Kardashians.

There. We survived the sentence.

The Victoria’s Secret show is coming, too. The brand has announced October 18, and of course I want to watch.

I love Gigi.

But Candice Swanepoel has always been number one for me.

These preferences do not require a spreadsheet. Nor am I opening a debate. You can have your favourites; I have mine.

I also need to get myself to the cinema.

Verity has arrived, with Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.

Three actors I really like, in one film. That is already a fairly persuasive argument for leaving the house.

I still need to go. This is anticipation, not a review from somebody who has only watched the trailer.

And The Rings of Power is getting closer. Amazon has announced November 11 for season three.

So Sauron will regain my attention soon enough.

Malta is starting to feel a little cooler to me. Slowly. Enough that an evening with music or something good to watch feels particularly appealing.

There are worse things to look forward to.

That’s the whole article.

I spend plenty of time building, researching and thinking about what comes next.

But there is also this version of me.

The one asking Alexa to play a song again. Watching a stupid reel and laughing. Following Kendall. Waiting for a film, a runway show or another visit to Middle-earth.

I don’t want to turn those things into lessons.

I don’t want to explain how leisure makes me a better founder, either. That would be a deeply annoying way to end an article about enjoying myself.

Some evenings are allowed to belong to the person, not the business.

Tonight, mine has Billy Ocean playing in the background.

And the Kardashians are back.

I’m good.
